처음 저 수조속의 고기들을 봤을땐 녀석들이 불쌍해 보였어..

억지로 공급되는 산소공급으로 신선함을 유지하며
어느때곤 잡혀먹히길 기다릴 뿐일 녀석들을 보면서 말이지..

그러다, 스스로 물었지..
영건, 네가 살고 있는 세상은 쟤네들보다 더 크니?
..
그렇단 대답이 나오지 않더군..

우리가 가진 지적능력에 비해..
우리가 가진 감정적, 수학적, 언어적, 논리적, 기하학적, 예술적 능력에 비해..

또 우리가 우리의 지평을 넓히는 도구로 사용할수 있는 집단적 지혜,
개인의 자유의지, 인간역사의 유구함 등을 생각해 보았을때..

그리고 우리의 우수한 최첨단 두뇌의 부피나
그 기억소자들의 엄청난 정교함과 작동원리들을 생각해 보았을때..

저 물고기의 능력에 대비한 물탱크의 크기와
우리 인간의 타고난 지적, 생리적 능력에 비한
지구의 크기를 생각해 봤을때..

내가 살고 있는 지구는
결코 충분히 넓은 곳이 아니란 생각이 들었지..

그렇다고 이렇게 좁은 지구에 산다는 것이
결코 행복하지 않다는 것은 아니지만..

..웃기지..?

근데.. 넌 어느만큼 살고 있니?

at first, I felt pity as I was gazing at them
contained in the small container with forced oxygen keep bubbling up from the bottom

for their freshness as a food not for the well-being of their own 

hopelessly waiting to be eaten at any time.

Right after the feeling,
I asked to myself..
hey Peter.. do you really think that you live in the bigger container than where there are now?
...
I wasn't sure..
...
as far as intellectual capability is concerned..
I mean all those emotional , logical, verbal, computational, geometrical, artistic

and reasoning capabilities which have been physiologically hardwired on us

together with such state-of-the-art storage and access mechanism of short and long term memories

and with such a powerful inference engine sitting just in the middle of our brain..

which could be leveraged as fairly good tools to broadening our horizon.

And at least, as far as the size of the volume of whole brain is concerned..
my earth is not big enough for me..
compared to those creatures called  fishes contained in that size of water reservoir

though it doesn't necessarily mean that I am not happy..

.. funny, right?

by the way, how much space have you been spared for your life anyway..?
